Board Of Regents Makes Decision On Porn On Campus
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) ―

The issue of porn on campus has been dumped in the laps of the University of Maryland's Board of Regents by the state legislature.
Pornography 101--that's what the University of Maryland's Board of Regents have signed on for following the flap earlier this month over a XXX film shown on campus.
Alex DeMetrick reports the regents aren't volunteering to jump into the porn issue; they're following orders.
The movie, "Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge," may be about pirates gone wild, but by the time part of the XXX-rated film was finally seen by students at College Park, some state legislators had threatened to cut off money.
Some students called it censorship by intimidation.
Now the issue of porn on campus has been dumped in the laps of the university's Board of Regents by the state legislature.
"They've asked the board to form a policy. They haven't stipulated what should be in the policy or anything else, but they've asked the board to look at the matter," said Dr. William Kirwan, University System of Maryland chancellor.
While opinions take on a wide range, most students, like all Americans, desire to exercise first amendment rights.
And while porno pirates have shivered some timbers, the board promises a serious debate.
State legislators have given the regents until Sept. 1 to come up with a policy dealing with porn on campus.
