Campaign Rallies Held As Md. Frenzy Grows

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) ― The Democratic Candidates are making their way to our region.

Peggy Lee reports, each candidate is making an attempt to get their message out in advance of Maryland's Tuesday primary.

Rallies were held all over our area this weekend by die-hard fans in hopes to pump people up for the primary.

At a rally for Senator Barack Obama, Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon was joined by Wisconsin Congressman Gwynn Moore and actress Alfre Woodard.

"I'm so, so honored to be here with your illustrious and brilliant mayor," said Woodard.

Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley got supporters for Hillary Clinton pumped to hit the streets.

"Maryland's going to play a pivotal role and the Clinton campaign is rolling throughout Maryland today. Senator Mikulski, the lieutenant governor, and hundreds of volunteers like the ones you see behind me," said O'Malley.

Republican candidate Mike Huckabee visited the home of the Maryland Terps.

The former Arkansas governor demonstrated to the crowd his feelings on the IRS.

"Well, if we had the fair tax, let me tell you what you could do with your 1040," said Huckabee as he tore pieces of paper into shreds before the crowd.

Just two days ago, GOP rival Mitt Romney suspended his campaign leading to a last minute fill in by Senator John McCain at a GOP dinner in Baltimore scheduled for Romney.

"His departure from the race does open this race up obviously for Senator McCain. And Senator McCain I believe will do very well in Maryland," said former governor Robert Ehrlich.

In this blue state of Maryland, most attention will rest on the competition between Obama and Clinton.

Both political power houses are being backed by some of the top movers and shakers our state has to offer.

Clinton and Obama will be in our area on Monday.

Maryland's primary is this Tuesday.
