Popular Md. Camp Under New Management

MONKTON, Md. (WJZ) ―

Camp Puh'Tok, one of Maryland's most popular summer camps, is in new hands. After more than 65 years of ownership by the Salvation Army, economic pressures led to the sale of the camp to a group of private investors, which includes some former campers.

"The idea is to keep the camp operating just as it did when I was a camper, when my father was a camper," said Alexi Kousouris, director of Camp Puh'Tok.

Last summer, the new owners leased the camp from the Salvation Army. The sale was finalized in January.

Eight hundred boys and girls, five to 16 years of age, will experience Camp Puh'Tok this summer. In keeping with the Salvation Army tradition, 40 campers are receiving scholarships.

This is Charlotte Snyder's first summer at Puh'Tok.

"It's going really well. I like archery and arts and crafts. I pretty much like everything," she said.
