MTA Could Add Bus To Busy Frederick Route

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) ―

The Maryland Transit Administration is proposing adding another bus to help relieve daily crowding aboard buses on the No. 991 route between Hagerstown and Shady Grove.

Officials told Frederick and Urbana commuters at a meeting Wednesday that one bus would be added for both the morning and the afternoon.

If the state Board of Public Works approves the proposal next week, the additional buses could be running in July.

Commuters boarding at the Urbana Park and Ride have complained the buses are often filled by the time they arrive and do not stop.

The MTA also pledged to improve communication with passengers.

If money is available, the MTA hopes next year to split rush hour trips to Hagerstown from those to Urbana and Frederick.
