Authorities say a school bus carrying middle school students was involved in a roll-over accident, injuring four children and the driver.
Authorities say a school bus carrying middle school students was involved in a roll-over accident, injuring four children and the driver.
Kai Jackson reports the remaining 40 students on the bus were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Officials say the injuries to the five people do not appear to be life-threatening.
Prince George's County Public Schools spokesman John White says the students were on their way to William Wirt Middle School in Riverdale when the crash occurred about 9 a.m. just a few blocks from the school on Riverdale Road.
Authorities say the bus driver was trying to beat oncoming traffic and made a left turn too quickly. The bus turned on its side. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
"The driver was traveling at such a high rate of speed that the school bus tipped over on its side," said Major Kevin Davis with Prince George's County Police.
Charges are pending against the driver. The 50-year-old driver will also face mandatory drug and alcohol testing, even though there's no sign that the driver was under the influence.
