Kratovil Had Summer Fundraising Edge

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) ― New reports show the Democrat in the closely contested congressional race in Maryland's 1st District took the fundraising lead over the summer.

Campaign finance reports released Wednesday by the Federal Election Commission show Democrat Frank Kratovil raised nearly $597,000 between July and Sept. 30. Republican Andy Harris raised about $553,000.

Kratovil's campaign manager, Kevin Lawlor, says the figures represent a momentum shift in the race. However, the reports show Harris had a larger balance of available cash.

Both men are looking to succeed nine-term Republican Wayne Gilchrest, who lost to Harris in a February primary. The district spans the entire Eastern Shore and parts of Harford, Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties.
