$1.3M Bridge Rehab Starting On Route 1 In Arbutus
ARBUTUS, Md. (AP) ―
The State Highway Administrations says a $1.3 million rehabilitation project on the U.S. Route 1 bridge in Arbutus is about to begin.
Officials announced Thursday that work on the bridge that carries U.S. 1 over Sulphur Spring Road in Arbutus will begin this month and is expected to be complete next spring.
The project will reduce U.S. 1 to one lane of traffic in each direction just north of the Halethorpe MARC train station.
Lane closings will be scheduled between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays and overnight Sunday through Thursday.
SHA spokesman Dave Buck says the bridge was built in 1947 and rehabilitated in 1978. He says the project involves full replacement of the deck, not just resurfacing, but piers that provide structural support don't need replacement.
