Fans Decide Whether To Keep Billick's Sandwich

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) ―

When a Towson restaurant named a sandwich after Brian Billick they expected he would be the coach of the Ravens for awhile.  Of course all that changed when Billick was fired.

Ron Matz has more on a controversy and a "deli dilemma" in Baltimore County.

Inside Pickles and Chips in Towson there's a controversy as hot as the eggs on the grill.

The Brian Billick sandwich is a gastronomic delight.  It is .75 of a pound.  Half is pastrami and half is corned beef.  The warmed sandwich is served on rye bread with mustard, homemade chips and a pickle.

It's one of the deli's best sellers.  When the coach was fired, owner Brian Snyder said he'd let the fans decide the sandwich's fate.

"As the week went on customers have been coming in, ordering the sandwich and asking us what we're going to do," said Snyder.

There are other signature sandwiches at the deli, including the Mark Viviano, Marty Bass and Bob Turk.

"It's going to stay on the menu.  It's a great seller and a great sandwich. We need either to change the name or if the fans say keep it to Brian Billick we'll keep it to Brian Billick," said Snyder.

Customers are weighing in on the controversy.

"I think we should keep the name. It's still a part of Ravens history.  He won a Super Bowl for us, so why not keep the name," said customer Geoff Hunt.

Each celebrity decides what they want included on their sandwich.  For every signature sandwich sold, the deli donates 25 cents to the celebrity's favorite charity.
