Boyfriend Arrested In Murder Of Pregnant Woman

FORESTVILLE, Md. (WJZ/AP) ― Prince George's County Police arrest a man they say murdered a pregnant woman and left her body at a high school football field.

It happened in Forestville, Prince George's County.

As Derek Valcourt reports, the suspect is believed to be her unborn child's father.

Valicia Andrea Demery, 19, was four months pregnant when her body was found on the track around the football field at Forestville Military Academy, devastating her family.

"Why would you do this to a young, 19-year-old girl who hasn't even experienced life yet. I mean, why would you do this?" said Garrett Demery, victim's father.

Police believe they know why. They arrested her boyfriend Bernard Bellamy, 20, the suspected father of her unborn child Monday morning.

The two graduated the same time last year from the high school where her body was found.

Police say the motive may have been that Bellamy was upset over the pregnancy.

"How can you live like that? How can you go on with your life when you know you just killed somebody," said Garrett.

The news has stunned those who live in the quiet community near the high school.

"Anybody that takes a life has to be absolutely out of their mind. You gonna die anyway, so why shorten it for a person? I don't care what they did," said a neighbor.

Video cameras at the school may have been helpful to police who said they were able to link Bellamy's car to the crime scene.

He was arrested at West Virginia State where he attends college. He now faces first-degree murder charges.

Police continue to piece together how Demery was killed.

Meanwhile, Bellamy is awaiting to be extradited back to Prince George's County for prosecution.
