Prince George's County Police say a body was found just off the track at Forrestville High School.
A woman's body is found on the grounds of a Maryland school. Now police are searching for her killer.
Mary Bubala reports the woman is from the town of District Heights, and she wasn't even 20-years-old.
Police say they now know who the victim is, but they don't know who killed her.
An early morning jogger found the body inside the fence surrounding the track near Forestville Military Academy football field bleachers.
The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Valencia Demery of District Heights.
Police say there were obvious wounds to her upper body.
"At this point, we only know that there was some type of trauma, and we're going to be looking into what that was," said Cpl. Clinton Copeland.
Police taped off the area as homicide detectives looked for evidence. They're trying to determine if security cameras recorded anything of value.
News of the apparent murder comes as a shock to students.
"That's just shocking for me, myself and my school," said a student.
"Forestville's such a great area, and everybody knows it's a good community. I never would think nothing like that would ever happen," said another.
The discovery is also a surprise to people who live on a street near the school.
"This is highly unusual. Actually my daughter graduated from Forestville Military Academy, and it's a real nice neighborhood. I've been here several years myself ... real quiet," said a resident.
Police believe the victim was likely killed sometime Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
"We are asking anybody or anyone who may know this person or who may have heard or seen anything that was out of the ordinary in this area last night between last night and early this morning to give us a call," said Copeland.
The body of the victim has been taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy to determine exactly how she died.
The Prince George's County Police Department is asking anyone with information on the case to call 301-772-4925.
