Savage River Dam Repair Plan Outlined
BLOOMINGTON, Md (AP) ―
State officials say a $6 million project to replace four corroded gates on the Savage River Dam in western Maryland should be finished by next spring.
Authorities who spoke at a public hearing Tuesday in Bloomington said the reservoir behind the dam will be lowered starting in October. Installation of the new gates could begin in mid-November.
Don Cosden, of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, says the trophy trout fishery just below the dam won't be damaged.
He says the fact that the work will be done during the cold weather months reduces the possibility of trout being hurt by relatively high water temperatures.
