Dying Man's Last Words Help Convict His Killer

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) ―

Prince George's County prosecutors say a dying man's last words helped convict his killer.

A jury on Friday convicted Benjamin Perry, 37, of the Hyattsville area of second-degree murder and two weapons violations in the January death of DeWayne Dunmore, also 37.

Dunmore called 911 on his cell phone while still bleeding from four bullet wounds. In a weakening voice, he told the dispatcher he was dying. When the dispatcher asked Dunmore if he knew who shot him, he named Perry.

Prosecutors say the recording was key evidence in Perry's conviction.

Perry was convicted of a homicide in Prince George's County in 1988. Court records detailing that case were not immediately available.
