Dr. Carson Will Get Presidential Medal Of Freedom

BALTIMORE (AP) ―

The White House says Johns Hopkins' director of pediatric neurosurgery will receive one of this year's Presidential Medals of Freedom.

Dr. Benjamin Carson performed the world's first successful operation separating twins joined at the back of the head in 1987.

He has served as director of the Children's Center neurosurgery department since 1984.

Carson is one of six who will receive the Medal of Freedom, which is the country's highest civilian award.

The ceremony is June 19.
