Bayliner To Close Plant In Cumberland

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) ― Brunswick Corp. says it will close the U.S. Marine Bayliner plant by the end of this year, eliminating about 115 jobs.

The Cumberland plant manufactures Trophy offshore fishing boats and its operations will be moved to another Brunswick facility in Ashland City, Tenn.

Allegany County Economic Director Matt Diaz says the county was notified of the closing on Friday.

Workers will go on a three-week furlough around Thanksgiving as the production shutdown begins.

The company says workers will receive severance and outplacement assistance.

Brunswick Chair and Chief Executive Officer Dustan McCoy says the closing is not a reflection upon the work force or product.
