Work Begins On Left Wall Of Bay Bridge Span
BALTIMORE (AP) ―
The Maryland Transportation Authority says it has completed testing on the wall on the left side of the eastbound span of the Bay Bridge and has found evidence of corrosion of steel bolts inside the concrete barrier.
The left lane was closed Wednesday for round-the-clock work the strengthen the left parapet at both ends of the span. The repairs are similar to those recently completed on the right parapet.
The lane closure means the westbound span will operate with two-way traffic Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Commuters will still have three westbound lanes for the morning rush and for the return from the Eastern Shore on the weekend.
