Police Discuss Shootings With Columbia Residents

COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) ―

Howard County police plan to meet Tuesday evening with residents of Columbia concerned about two weekend shootings.

Jason Batts, 23, was fatally wounded by gunfire early Saturday outside the Stevens Forest Apartments.

Wayne Hamlin, 24, was shot and wounded early Sunday during a fight in the 5800-block of Thunder Hill Road.

Although both shootings occurred in the Oakland Mills village, police do not believe the shootings are related. No one has been charged in either shooting.

Oakland Mills is one of Columbia's oldest neighborhoods and has been targeted for revitalization by the county government.
