A Baltimore Ravens player has a run-in with police at the Inner Harbor.
As
Mary Bubala reports, police say it's a case of unnecessary roughness.
Police say Tony Fein, 27 was arrested for assault on an officer.
It happened inside the Light St. Pavilion at the Inner Harbor near Johnny Rockets.
Security guards there, who were already on heightened alert after last week's double shooting, called on Baltimore police to help them investigate what they thought was four men passing a gun.
"They asked the subjects to stand up. One of the subjects resisted police, became belligerent. The sergeant then approached him and asked him to stand up again. He resisted, stood up and pushed the officer in the chest. The officer fell down," said Anthony Guglielmi, Baltimore City Police spokesperson.
The 6'2", 245-pound linebacker was quickly arrested by other officers. Police say there was no gun, but instead a cell phone. Fein now faces a felony charge of assault on an officer. He was released on his own recognizance Sunday night.
"You're not above the law. You're not supposed to touch cops," said a resident.
Kevin Byrne, the Ravens' senior vice president of public and community relations, issued this statement regarding Tony Fein, "Like all citizens, Tony will get his due process and have his opportunity to explain. There are two sides to every story."
Fein is a rookie attempting to get a spot on the Ravens roster as a linebacker. He is also an Iraq war veteran who served two years in the war.
Fein's trial is scheduled for Oct. 7.
