The suspect accused of shooting an Anne Arundel County police officer has been charged.
Police have charged Matthew Gonzalez, although specific charges have not been released.
The officer was shot in South Baltimore Tuesday morning.
Alex DeMetrick reports with the pull of the trigger several blocks of the Brooklyn community became an instant crime scene.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. on Audrey Ave. and 6th Street on the Baltimore City-Anne Arundel County line.
Police swarmed over half a dozen blocks, as neighbors woke up to gunshots.
"I was standing in the bathroom and then I heard, boom, boom, boom. I heard sirens and brakes or tires squealing or something," said neighbor Jerry Brown.
Police responded to a report of two people ransacking a car.
"They looked right at me and they both started walking. I hollered 'hey' again and they started running straight down this way," said a witness.
Police found them and say one of the suspects was combative.
"They tased the individual. During that incident, the suspect was still able to produce a weapon, exchange gunfire with the officers," said Sgt. John Gilmer with Anne Arundel County Police.
Officials say the officer was shot in the chest, but was wearing a bulletproof vest.
The 30-year-old officer suffered slight bruising to the chest. He was taken to Shock Trauma where he was treated and released. He has not been identified, but he is a four-year member of the force.
While the suspect in the shooting was taken into custody, police and academy cadets looked for more evidence.
It's not clear if the suspect's gun was found or if he was injured. The status of the second suspect is also unknown.
