Baltimore Records 10 Homicides In April

BALTIMORE (AP) ―

Baltimore remains on pace for its lowest homicide total in more than 20 years.

The city recorded 10 slayings in April, the lowest total for that month since 1997.

April also included a nine-day stretch without a murder.

For the year, there have been 63 homicides. That's a 31 percent decrease from the same period last year, and it puts Baltimore on a pace for 184 homicides this year.

Last year, the city recorded 282 homicides, and there haven't been fewer than 250 in any year since the 1980s.

Police spokesman Sterling Clifford says it's very rare to have a month with 10 homicides.

But he cautions that May and June were last year's bloodiest two months.
