Baltimore County police have arrested a man and woman in connection with the murder of a Granite man.
Kelly McPherson reports police say one of the killers stole their grandmother's van to track down and kill Lamont Blackston, and that van gave police some clues.
A luxury home in Granite turned into a crime scene Tuesday. But now Baltimore County police have arrested two of the four suspects connected in the murder of Lamont Blackston, 35.
The key piece of evidence was the getaway van that police spotted leaving the area early Tuesday morning. Its tags lead police to James Tanner, 27, and his girlfriend Terell Spencer.
Undercover detectives were looking for Tanner. They saw him and Spencer driving on Martin Luther King Boulevard near Route 40 Wednesday evening. They stopped the vehicle, and after a brief conversation, both were arrested in connection with the murder.
Tanner is accused of shooting Blackston in his home.
"When they went into the house, they were running through looking for things. We are still not 100 percent sure as to what they were actually looking for. But detectives going about this investigation believe that the motive is probably robbery," said Cpl. Mike Hill, Baltimore County Police spokesperson.
From the beginning police said Blackston was targeted. He owns a store in the city. His 4,000-square foot home is down the street from a former Raven.
"First reaction was this morning when I was leaving, taking my son to school, I was shocked," said Evan Oglesby, former Raven.
"When Mr. Blackston got home, that is when they accosted him at the door and went into the house. So we don't believe he was followed. They knew what time he was going to be home or they just sat in the area until they saw him or knew he was going to back at his house," said Hill.
Blackston's wife was in the home during the murder. She said two other masked men were with Tanner.
Police still do not know their identities. Police are still looking for those two suspects.
Spencer is charged with accessory and conspiracy to murder because police say she deleted contacts out of her boyfriend's cell phone when she realized police were on their trail. She is being held on $150,000 bail. Tanner is being held without bail.
Anyone with information about this crime or the suspects identity is asked to call Baltimore County Police at 410-307-2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP (1-866-756-2587). To text a message to Metro Crime Stoppers, send to "CRIMES" (274637), then enter the message starting with "MCS."
Those contacting Metro Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and might be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
