Police Look For Suspect In Liquor Store Murder

(WJZ) Baltimore County police are seeking the public's help in locating the man who cut a woman's throat inside Charing Cross Liquors in the 5200-block of Baltimore National Pike.

Sally Thorner reports the killing took place at about 4 p.m. on Saturday.

According to witnesses, the victim, Aysha Dawn Ring, 24, was waiting at the cash register to make a purchase when the suspect came up behind her.

"The woman was waiting online to pay when a man came up behind her, grabbed her from the rear, reached forward, cut her throat and then turned and walked out," said Bill Toohey, Baltimore County Police spokesperson.

Witnesses told police the man said nothing and took off before police could arrive. Ring was taken to Shock Trauma where she later died.

It is not known if the killer knew the victim or what his motive might have been.

Some of the customers in the store left before police arrived and investigators have little information to go on.

The man is described as a black male, 20-30 years old, 230 lbs., 6'1" tall.

Security cameras in the plaza did get a picture of the man. Police haven't released those images to the media yet, but reward posters throughout the shopping plaza show at least one grainy image of the killer.

Police have increased patrols as shocked neighbors learn of the violent attack.

"That's pretty crazy.  I've been in that liquor store a couple of times and I live just around the corner. I mean, that's pretty sad. I always thought it was a pretty safe area, but I don't know," said one neighbor.

Ring worked at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Rev. John W. Swope, SJ, president of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School issued a statement.

"The Cristo Rey Jesuit High School community was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Aysha Ring. Beginning in June 2007, Aysha was a valued staff member in our Corporate Internship Program. She brought incredible dedication to her work with our students, our staff and our partners in the Baltimore business community. While working full time, Aysha furthered her education with coursework at Anne Arundel Community College. She was ambitious for herself and for our students. A young life full of promise has been tragically cut short. "Just last month, our school participated in a video promoting a message of peace to our city. Today our school community has been touched by tragedy. Grief counselors are in our building now to help students and staff begin the long process of healing as we mourn a beloved staff member. We join with the Baltimore County Police in urging anyone who has information to step forward and help bring Aysha's killer to justice. For now, we remember Aysha as the very special person she was to all of us, and we will keep her family in our prayers."

Homicide detective believe that some of the customers who left the store might have information to help lead them to the killer.  They are asking those customers or anyone else with information on the crime to come forward.  They can call police at 410-307-2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP.
