Campaign Organizer Arthur Murphy Loses MS Battle

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―

Arthur Murphy, one of the most successful political campaign organizers, has lost his three decade battle with multiple sclerosis.

Richard Sher reports Murphy died Friday at the age of 57.

"Art's genius was politics. He lived and breathed politics," said his brother, attorney Bill Murphy.

Art Murphy ran campaigns for Maryland politicians and for other politicians, like former Virginia governors Charles Robb and Douglas Wilder.

In 1994, Murphy ran former State Senator John Pica's campaign.

"My district had been redrawn. It was 65 percent African-American. Art told me if I listened to him, I would win, and I did by a 2-1 margin," said Pica.

A private memorial service is planned.
