Teen Killed In North Baltimore Home Invasion

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Baltimore City Police are searching for a killer.

They say a group of intruders broke into a Baltimore apartment and killed a teenager who lives there.

Gigi Barnett reports 16-year-old Matthew Scarborough was shot when he wouldn't get on the ground like the intruders asked him to.

A short time later, he died from the gunshot wound. Now his killer is on the loose.

At 1 a.m. Thursday, a 10 and 19-year-old heard a knock on the door at a Drum Castle apartment.

They let in three men who ended up ordering them on the floor with guns. Then the suspects ransacked the apartment.

"We know that the motive right now is going to be robbers. We don't know what the underlying theme there might be, but we're looking at that also," said Troy Harris, Baltimore City Police spokesperson.

Two others who lived in the apartment showed up. Scarborough refused to get on the ground when asked and was shot in the shoulder.

He was pronounced dead at Sinai Hospital.

Police are still looking into many unanswered questions. Who are the suspects, why was the apartment targeted and why were all the occupants so young.

"We're not sure what the relationship was," said Harris.

Investigators haven't said what the suspects got away with or if the suspects drove or ran off.

It's also unclear if the boys inside the apartment called 911 after Scarborough was shot.

Police have yet to release a description of the three suspects.
