1 Killed After North Baltimore Home Invasion

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― City police are searching for a killer after a group of intruders broke into a Baltimore apartment, and killed a teen who lives there.

Kelly McPherson reports, Matthew Scarborough, 16, was shot when he wouldn't get on the ground like his intruders asked him to.

A short time later he died from the gunshot wound. Now Baltimore City Police are looking for his killers.

At 1 a.m. Thursday, a 10 and 19-year-old heard a knock on the door at a Drum Castle apartment.

They let in three men who ended up ordering them on the floor with guns. Then the suspects ransacked the apartment.

"We know that the motive right now is going to be robbery. We don't know what the underlying theme there might be, but we're looking at that also," said Troy Harris, Baltimore City Police.

Two others who live in the apartment showed up. Scarborough refused to get on the ground when asked and was shot.

He was pronounced dead at Sinai Hospital.

Neighbors say there had been parties at the apartment but never any trouble, so to hear a teen had been shot was troubling.

Many college students live in the area, and new people have recently moved into the neighborhood.

Police are still looking into many unanswered question. Who were the suspects, why was this apartment targeted and why were all the occupants so young.
Investigators haven't said what the suspects got away with or if the suspects drove or ran off.

It's also unclear if the boys inside the apartment called 911 after Scarborough was shot.

Police have not released a description of the three suspects at this time
