Anthony McCarthy says the woman he knows in Mayor Sheila Dixon would not do the things she's charged with.
People talked to the mayor's former spokesman on the radio Friday.
Kelly McPherson reports while there are a variety of opinions, one common thread is people want more information before passing any judgment.
Anthony McCarthy worked as Mayor Dixon's chief of staff while she served as Baltimore City Council president. Later, he was her mayoral spokesman for a year.
He has an interesting perspective on this indictment, knowing the mayor so well.
"I know her to be a woman of extreme character. And so these allegations kind of fly in the face of the woman I know," said McCarthy. "I think she will have her day in court. The woman I know, Sheila Dixon, I don't believe any of these things that she's being charged with."
"The real question is, did what, did the gift that he gave her cross a line in some way. My take on it is I don't think it did. I don't in any way believe that these charges have any merit," said a caller.
McCarthy expressed disbelief that this type of behavior would happen in the mayor's office. He says she runs a very tight ship.
However, he admits that for a prosecutor to bring these types of charges against a mayor of a major city, there must be some type of substance to it.
