City Dock in Annapolis gets top honors for being environmentally friendly.
Jessica Kartalija has more.
Between 8,000 and 10,000 boats come through City Dock each year. Now it's cleaner and greener.
Ego Alley is now Eco Alley. Just ask proud Harbor Master Rick Dahlgren.
"Together with 24 smaller clean marina partners, we now have 135 certified facilities in Maryland," Dahlgren said.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has just announced that City Dock is what's officially dubbed a Maryland Clean Marina.
"We patrol the water for spills, we have response kits, ER monitor to make sure people don't bump their bilges and that kind of stuff," Dahlgren said.
No sewage slips here. After years of hard work, the marina meets tough pollution standards.
"This is such a top honor. It's fantastic. If we're going to go out and enjoy the bay, we have an obligation to protect the bay," said boater Dave Hanson.
City Dock was recently renovated to the tune of $9 million. The project added new piers to Ego Alley to make room for bigger boats. They also upgraded their electricity.
"Providing the services, Clean Marina means they're giving people that care the ability to be clean themselves," said Jennifer Richards, Bluewater Yacht Sales.
The award comes just as Maryland gets ready for its busy boating season.
City Dock, in Annapolis' historic district, is surrounded by original buildings from the 18th century.
