A string of high profile animal abuse incidents have animal rights activists calling for change. As Mike Schuh reports, they took their ideas to Towson.
Just this week in Baltimore, a cat was chained to a fence and fireworks were lit off under its head. The cat died.
Last month, the dog rescuers named Phoenix had to be put down after someone lit it on fire. Phoenix and the cat-skinning case in Florida have drawn national attention.
After seeing all these horrible incidents on television, a group of animal lovers decided they needed to do something to affect change. They met Saturday at the Towson Library.
A group called Karma Dogs asked kids to swear to be kind.
"It's important to take a minute to say you have to be kind so today we're doing an oath of kindness, to be kind and tell an adult if you see them being hurt," said Karma Dogs Executive Director Kelly Gould. "I think it's unfortunate that sometimes we need to remind kids of that, but we do."
Their oath was sealed with a real paw print by an animal witness.
Karma dogs give comfort to people in hospitals, retirement homes and elsewhere.
That group can be reached here.
