Former Prince George's County schools superintendent Andre Hornsby has been sentenced to six years in prison for his convictions on wire fraud, witness and evidence tampering and obstruction of justice.
U.S. District Judge Peter J. Messitte on Tuesday also ordered Hornsby, 55, to three years of supervised release and to pay $20,000 in fines and $70,000 in restitution.
Hornsby's convictions arose from an alleged scheme to cause the county school system to award contracts that benefited close associates and himself. Hornsby initially faced 22 charges. A federal jury acquitted him of two charges and deadlocked on 14.
Hornsby served as head of Maryland's second largest school district from 2003 until 2005.
