Officer Killed After Being Struck By Car

LAUREL, Md. (AP) ― Prince George's County police say an officer has died after being hit and dragged by a pickup truck that was reported stolen.

Police say Corporal Richard Findley was monitoring the truck about 11:40 a.m. Friday on Laurel-Bowie Road when several men returned to the vehicle. They rammed Findley's cruiser during an attempted traffic stop, then hit the officer when he got out of the cruiser.

Findley, a 10-year veteran of the police department, was taken to Laurel Regional Hospital and pronounced dead.

Police say they believe Findley fired shots during the incident, but it's unclear whether anyone was hit.

Corporal Clinton Copeland, a police spokesman, says officers searched a nearby apartment complex for suspects and are questioning at least four people.

The officer is the first to be killed in Prince George's County since 2005.
