BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― There were urgent calls for help seconds after a devastating accident in Northwest Baltimore.  Eyewitness News obtained the calls to dispatchers made just minutes after the crash.

Radio transmissions give new insight into the moments after a horrifying crash between a Baltimore City fire engine and a Nissan Murano early Sunday morning.

The three people riding inside the Nissan were all killed--Mikhail and Iryna Patrov and their friend, Igor Saub.

Eyewitness News learned through several highly-placed sources that a surveillance camera captured the fire truck speeding into the intersection. A second unit following closely behind may have seen the fire truck run a red light.

Under state and city rules, on emergency calls, lights and sirens must be used and vehicles must stop at red lights.

The incident is now under investigation by both the police and fire departments.  At the heart of the issue is who made the fatal mistake.

"Exactly what happened, I don't know.  It's still under investigation.  It's being led by the police department's traffic enforcement division.  The fire department will be conducting our own investigation as well, but the impact of this is felt throughout the department and especially the individuals involved in that accident," said Kevin Cartwright, spokesperson for the Baltimore City Fire Department.

A full report is expected to be released to the public on Thursday.
