Drop In Fatal Crashes Involving Teen Drivers
BALTIMORE (AP) ―
Statistics show the number of fatal accidents in the Baltimore region involving drivers between the ages of 16 and 20 fell sharply between 2003 and 2007.
Data from the State Highway Administration and reviewed by The (Baltimore) Examiner shows 2007 was the best year for teen drivers in over a decade. Numbers for 2008 are not yet available.
During the five year period, fatal accidents involving young drivers in the Baltimore region fell from 62 per year to 21. The number of injury crashes fell from more than 4,300 per year to 1,947.
Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration administrator John Kuo credits the declines to the state's graduated drivers license program.
