Man Dies In Burtonsville Accident

BURTONSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) ―

Police are investigating what led to a fatal accident in Montgomery County.

Don Scott reports a pedestrian was struck in a hit-and-run crash just before 5 a.m. on Route 29 in Burtonsville.

Officers responded to northbound Columbia Pike and Sandy Spring Road for the report of a crash involving a man.

The victim has been identified as Michael Gonce Aschenbrenner, 44.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Aschenbrenner was struck in the travel portion of northbound Columbia Pike, just north of Burtonsville.

Detectives believe the victim may have been struck by more than one vehicle, but none remained at the scene. Aschenbrenner's vehicle, a 2008 silver Dodge Ram pickup truck with Maryland tags, was found at the scene. His truck was in the grassy area off of the right-hand shoulder with the driver's door open, the ignition on, and the engine in neutral.

Investigators are interested in hearing from motorists who were traveling on Columbia Pike north of Burtonsville between the hours of 4 a.m. and 5 a.m.

Callers should contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.
