Rockefeller In Boston To Face Abduction Charges

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― An attorney for the father accused of snatching his 7-year-old daughter said Tuesday the man did not kidnap his child, nor does he have any link to a California slaying.

Stephen Hrones told reporters that Clark Rockefeller is not guilty of abducting Reigh Boss.

"How could you kidnap your own daughter?" Hrones asked. "He loves his daughter. Kidnapping doesn't apply, it was his own kid."

Hrones also denied a report in The Boston Globe that Rockefeller's fingerprints may be connected to a slaying investigation in California. The Globe, citing two unnamed sources, said his fingerprints were linked to an out-of-state license application under a different name. The Globe says that name is on a list of people wanted in a homicide case in California.

Rockefeller was scheduled to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court later Tuesday afternoon.

Rockefeller has numerous aliases, but Hrones said Clark Rockefeller was his client's legal name. He said he knew Rockefeller socially before Rockefeller hired him Tuesday, but he wouldn't say how. He described him as a good guy who loves his daughter.

Mike Hellgren reports on the people who helped police catch him.

Clark Rockefeller seemed to have a plan.  He'd been setting up a new life for himself and his daughter in Baltimore for at least the last year.

The Anchorage Marina says his boat has been here for several years, barely touched.  The slip was paid for by Chip Smith.  That was the name Rockefeller was using to set up shop.

He also used that name to buy a house in Mt. Vernon for $450,000 through Obsidian Realty.

"He told me he intended to relocate from Chile to Baltimore, purchase a two-three bedroom home for him and his daughter," said Julie Gochar with Obsidian Realty.

Published pictures of Rockefeller and his daughter Reigh triggered real estate agents to call police, bringing the case to Baltimore.

"My real estate agents did the right thing.  They acted quickly and they're the reason that little girl was returned safely to her mother," Gochar said.

The manager of Anchorage Marina didn't want to go on camera, but explained how he came up with the idea to catch Rockefeller.  It had to do with his boat.  The manager said a year ago it was taking on water and Rockefeller was quick to come check on it, so he knew if he told him the same thing happened, he would leave the house.

Police took Rockefeller into custody Saturday afternoon.

With as many as six aliases, there's much to sort out.

"He was very quiet.  I only saw him for 15 seconds.  The court hearing did not last very long," said Patricia Deros, district court prosecutor.

In a few hours, Rockefeller will face kidnapping and assault charges in Massachusetts.

Reigh and her mother are doing well.

There are no charges against Rockefeller in Maryland.  The famed Rockefeller family says he is not a relative.
