Staff Recommends Granting Wind Power Application

OAKLAND, MD. (AP) ― Maryland Public Service Commission staff is recommending granting wind power developer's application for a project on Backbone Mountain in Garrett County.

The commission will make the final decision next week on whether Clipper Windpower subsidiary Criterion Power Partners will be exempt from a certificate that provides the authority for the construction or modification of a new generating station.

In February, the developer announced plans to reduce the project to 28 turbines and 70 megawatts.

That would make it small enough to qualify for a fast-track approval process the state implemented last year to make Maryland friendlier to wind power developers.
