Starting Friday, you'll see some new vehicles on the streets of Baltimore --Toyota Prius taxis.
Ron Matz reports Yellow Transportation is going green.
Baltimore's first hybrid taxi left Remington Friday morning, heading for City Hall.
Yellow Transportation introduced two Toyota Prius hybrids to its fleet, and the company says there are more environmentally friendly taxis on the way.
The first hybrid picked up Mayor Sheila Dixon at Baltimore's City Hall, where she's preparing for Baltimore Green Week.
The vehicles produce great savings for cabbies, like Joe Matthews.
"Number one, they get about 48 miles to the gallon, which will help my pocket. But it's also very environmentally safe. Our customers will be riding in clean air vehicles," said Matthews.
Matthews' clean air cab will save him $150 a week.
"It will be a major savings to me, a major difference," said Matthews.
"We have 12 in various stages of taxicab preparation. We have three road ready. We are dedicated to bringing this technology to Baltimore. As soon as we can get them in, we'll get them on the road," said Andre Taylor, operations manager for Yellow Transportation.
Yellow Transportation has 700 taxis in Baltimore. The company says in the near future they would like to have at least 30 percent of that fleet be hybrids.
