New Treatment Helps After Dental Visit

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ) ― If you've ever had anesthesia for a dental procedure, you know about the unpleasant effects.

For hours, patients are left with numbness in the mouth that can cause drooling or interfere with speech.

Kellye Lynn reports there's a new, FDA approved product that can restore sensation in minutes.

It's one of the most common complaints for people who visit the dentist, after an injection of novocaine, the mouth just isn't the same.

"The fat lip feeling, you feel like your lip is out to here. i'd say that is the most annoying," says Amy Mezewski.

Not anymore, Amy's dentist now offers a product that reverses that droopy lip feeling, oraverse.

"It's given in exact same spot of novacaine and the patient doesn't even feel they've been given anything," says Dr. Michael Mann, a Glen Burnie dentist.

Dr. Mann injects oraverse after dental procedures.

Patients who once had difficulty smiling, drinking or speaking can experience a return of sensation in about half the time or in Amy's case, even faster.

"Within about 15 minutes, I didn't have that fat lip feeling. In 30 minutes, it was completely gone," adds Mezewski

Since oraverse is not covered by insurance you should expect to pay between $15 and $30.

"Anything that makes the patients happy is great for the patients," adds Dr. Mann
