Winter Storm Hits Maryland, Part 3
|
The Montgomery County school board has approved a nearly $1.5 billion six-year construction plan.
The board also rejected a plan to shut down a small, under-enrolled elementary school in the rural northwestern part of the county.
The construction plan calls for building an elementary and middle school in Clarksburg, one of the county's fastest growing areas, and expanding the high school there. It would also expand and modernize many other schools.
The plan must be approved by the county council.
Board members refused to go along with Superintendent Jerry D. Weast's proposal to close Monocacy Elementary School near Barnesville in August. They say they want to study alternatives first.
