New Venue For Lawsuit Against Reform School

BALTIMORE (AP) ― The attorney representing the family of a Baltimore teenager who died after a confrontation with counselors at a school for juvenile offenders is moving the family's lawsuit from federal court to state court.

Attorney Steven Silverman says the federal case has been voluntarily dismissed and a new lawsuit will be filed in Baltimore City Circuit Court in a matter of days.

Silverman says the new lawsuit will contain many of the same charges and "most or all" of the same defendants, including the now-closed Bowling Brook Preparatory School, several of its employees and the state Department of Juvenile Services.

Isaiah Simmons III, 17, died after he was restrained at the school in Carroll County in January 2007.
