The mother of Pfc. Michael Yates killed in Baghdad by a fellow soldier discusses the military's shortcomings addressing mental health problems.

The mother of a Maryland soldier killed in a Baghdad counseling center says the incident underscores military shortcomings in addressing mental health problems.
Shawna Machlinski, whose 19-year-old son Pfc. Michael Yates Jr. was killed in the May shooting, says a military report confirms what she already thought: that the military is not well-equipped to properly handle post-traumatic stress disorder.
The military released the report Friday, but The Star Democrat of Easton, Md., first reported last week on its contents.
Machlinski, of Federalsburg, received a copy of the report about a month ago.
Machlinski also says the military had ample warning about how disturbed Sgt. John M. Russell was and didn't do enough to get him the help he needed.
Five troops were killed in the shooting.
