A Harford County family narrowly escapes death when a huge tree destroyed their home.
Kai Jackson reports it happened in the 1900-block of Cosner Road off of High Point Road Tuesday morning.
When firefighters arrived at the scene they found a massive tree on a house. A contractor was attempting to cut down the tree when it fell in the opposite direction.
"That house has trees very close up to it, all away around it. It's part of the risk of living with trees that close to your backyard," said neighbor Leann Murphy.
Two adults and two children were inside when the 80-foot tree landed. The children, a one-year-old and a three-year-old boy, were taken to Johns Hopkins Children's Center. One adult, the boys' grandmother, was transported to Upper Chesapeake Hospital. The injuries are not considered life threatening. The other adult refused treatment.
"The injuries were mainly received by flying debris," said Deputy Chief Dave Williams.
Although the roof collapsed, the house's structure held up the roof.
BGE was called to the scene to disconnect all electric and gas lines. The house has been condemned by Harford County.
