Police Look For Sexual Predator In Charles Village

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Baltimore Police are still searching for the man preying on women in one popular part of the city.

Kelly McPherson reports the crimes the man is committing are against unsuspecting women.

It's hard to picture violent assaults at the front doors of Charles Village, a growing neighborhood near Johns Hopkins.

Police say two women have been attacked by the same man in the past two months.

"It's scary. It's definitely scary. It makes me feel like I need to be more aware of my surroundings," said Kristy Betz.

The suspect tried to rape a Charles Village woman in March. Then on Wednesday he raped a woman in the same neighborhood.

Police say the man would follow his victims first, from either their car or the grocery store. Then, as soon as that woman got to her front door, that's when he'd assault her.

Women who work and live in the neighborhood say this is a warning to still be on guard despite the safe feeling of the area.

"I carry pepper spray in my car, but it's something that I've gone to get out now that I keep in my bag with me so that I'm prepared because I have been a little lackadaisical, and this is kind of the push I need to really be aware," said Brittany Fowler.

"It's crime. Nobody really wants crime to happen, but it doesn't make me feel less safe," said Christine Walton.

Police have boosted patrols but ask that neighbors help by looking for a man fitting the description of 5'9", medium build, well-spoken, wearing a blue t-shirt, black gloves and a white face mask. He carries a hand gun.

"We believe he frequents these areas. We believe there are people in these areas who've seen him, and we want them to pay attention and even if you're wrong, it doesn't matter. We'll investigate it," said Det. Nicole Monroe with Baltimore City Police.

Neighbors say they will keep their eyes open.
