The new police chief in Brunswick is familiar to residents of the Frederick County city.
The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint acting chief Milt Frech to the post.
The 44-year-old Frech was second-in-command to Chief John Smith before Smith resigned for health reasons in late April.
Smith told The Frederick News-Post Thursday that Frech is among the best police officers he has worked with.
He will be sworn in June 23 as the top cop in the city of 5,200.
