Berwyn Heights Mayor Sues Authorities Over Raid

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) ―

A small-town mayor is suing Prince George's County authorities over a raid at his home during which they killed his two dogs.

Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo said Monday he is filing a lawsuit in Prince George's County Circuit Court against officials at the county sheriff's office and police department.

Calvo says he wants the court to order the county to change its policies for deploying SWAT teams. He says there are problems with how authorities serve warrants, treat animals and detain people.

Last summer, police raided Calvo's home after drug smugglers sent a package containing 32 pounds of marijuana to his residence.

Police later cleared Calvo and his family of any wrongdoing. A review last week by the sheriff's office found deputies acted appropriately during the incident.
