Jessie Hall Expected To Be Home For Good

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―

The little Texas girl who had half her brain removed by Johns Hopkins doctors is spending her first night at home since the surgery.

On her own, Jessie Hall walked out of Cook's Children's Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

Kai Jackson
reports the six-year-old girl now begins a new chapter in her young life.

For the first time since her surgery, she is heading to her own house with her family.

In June, Jessie had a radical surgery to save her life. She was suffering from a rare neurological disease called Rasmussen's encephalitis.

Johns Hopkins pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson performed a hemispherectomy on Jessie and removed the right half of her brain.

The road to recovery has been a long and difficult one for Jessie and her family.

Rehabilitation focused on training the remaining half of her brain to take over all the functions the right half controlled.

Five weeks after her surgery, Jessie was strong enough to return home to Texas.

Through it all, Jessie and her family have remained faithful and courageous.

The gifted hands of a world-renowned surgeon and a family whose prayers for their little daughter were answered 10-fold made this a happy beginning.

The Halls have formed a foundation to help other families who may be going through what Jessie has endured.  You can get information from the links on this page.

The family is planning a community celebration near their home later this month.
