He's a living, breathing, swimming, biking and running miracle. Rick Bounds, who was told he was dying of liver and kidney disease 15 months ago, is training for Saturday's triathalon in Pocomoke City.
"He was extremely sick, the sickest a person can be to be considered for liver and kidney transplants," University of Maryland transplant surgeon Dr. Rolf Barth told
Richard Sher.
Rick was training at Meadowbrook Swim Club.
"I'm doing this for the people who are on tranplant lists to let them know there is life after tranplantation, and that they can rebuild your body," he said.
"He's just an amazing person. My first transplant swimmer, showing people that there is so much ahead beyond being ill," Annie Lawler said. Lawler is Rick's swimming coach from North Baltimore Swimming School at Meadowbrook.
Rick is selling "Donate Life" t-shirts at $20 each to help patients at the University of Maryland Transplant Center.
You can contact Rick at boundscarpet@comcast.net.
