Passport Health Offers Vaccines To Relief Workers
BALTIMORE (AP) ―
A Baltimore company that specializes in immunizing people for overseas travel will be providing vaccines to anyone heading to Myanmar to join relief efforts after a devastating cyclone.
Passport Health says in a news release that cholera has broken out in areas hit by the cyclone, and there's little fresh water or food to be found.
The company will provide hepatitis A and typhoid vaccines to protect relief workers from food- and water-borne illness. It will offer oral rehydration packets that can be used to treat those suffering from cholera.
More than 60,000 people are dead or missing and entire villages are submerged in the Irrawaddy delta after Saturday's cyclone.
International relief has been slow to reach Myanmar, which is governed by an isolationist military junta.
