Women Trade Their Heels For Wheels To Fight Cancer

More Information On Women Only Ride

ROSEDALE, Md. (WJZ) ―

It's just a few days away and it's a first for Baltimore. The area's first ever "Women's Only Motorcycle Ride" will raise funds to fight breast cancer.

Ron Matz reports it started with a Harley and a courageous woman from Rosedale.

Colette Nichols is a survivor of breast cancer. She was diagnosed in 2004. She had radiation, chemotherapy and surgery.

After 15 months of weekly chemotherapy, she made a life changing decision. Nichols turned her heels into wheels, creating the first ever "Women's Only Motorcycle Ride" to raise money to fight breast cancer.

"It's just incredible to have the presence of women who are saying it's time to find a cure," said Nichols.

Harley Davidson's Tina Jarman met Colette and the ride was born.

"As far as we know an all women ride has never been done in Maryland. Women and men ride together all the time and men ride together, so this is a chance for women to shine," said Jarman.

The ride is 44 miles through Baltimore County. It begins and ends at the Harley Davidson store in Rosedale.

"The guys are welcome, but they cannot go on the ride. We want them here to support the women as the wives and girlfriends have supported the men through the years," said Jarman.

Fellow riders will be signing Colette's helmet to support her amazing journey.

"I know there's good people out there, but it's amazing to me how many of them there are and to come together on my behalf.  The women are incredibly excited to help me out," said Nichols.
