Sometimes good deeds come where you least expect them. In this case, it's inside a Maryland prison.
As
Alex DeMetrick reports, bras behind bars was a first for inmates as well.
Dismal weather looks gloomier through razor wire. But inside the Central Correctional Facility in Sykesville, there's an unexpected burst of color from 6,000 bras.
"We're washing them and we're boxing them up. [We] fold them up nice and neat and make sure they're in good shape," said Javon Watkins, prison inmate.
This is home to one of Maryland's largest prison laundries. Normally, it's sheets and towels from other prisons and state institutions, but women's lingerie is a first.
The bras got here after a Frederick radio station paid a dollar for each donated bra to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a foundation that supports breast cancer awareness and research.
The prison laundry volunteered to clean them before they are donated to women's shelters.
It's something of an experience for men who have been locked up for years. Some told
WJZ they haven't seen a bra in a really long time.
The next good deed comes in two weeks when Maryland inmates prepare turkeys for Bea Gaddy's Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner.
