Baltimore Ban On Trans Fats Begins Sunday

BALTIMORE (AP) ― A ban on trans fats in foods sold at Baltimore restaurants is now in effect.

Interim Health Commissioner Olivia Farrow says as of Sunday, businesses are no longer permitted to prepare or cook foods with ingredients that have more than half a gram of trans fats per serving.

The health department has resources available for city businesses and restaurants that need help complying with the new law.

The Baltimore City Council approved a bill in March 2008 that prohibits the sale of any prepared food containing partially hydrogenated vegetable oil.
