Md. Restaurants Join Moveable Feast To Feed Hungry

  More Information On Movable Feast

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―

Whether you like a burger and beer or a filet mignon, you can help feed others by "Dining Out For Life" this week. It's all about helping Moveable Feast whose mission is to help feed those in need in the Baltimore area.

Ron Matz reports it's as easy as making a reservation Thursday night.

It's busy in the kitchen in the East Baltimore headquarters of Moveable Feast. For the past 20 years they've delivered free meals to thousands in need in Baltimore and beyond.

"We have over 52 restaurants this year in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Howard County and Harford County who have come on board to step up to the plate to participate in 'Dining Out For Life.' We have a restaurant on the Eastern Shore as well," said executive director Tom Bonderenko, Moveable Feast.

Area restaurants will donate at least 20 percent of their proceeds Thursday to the dedicated organization.

Delores Gupton is one of the many volunteers who make Moveable Feast such an important part of Baltimore.

"Makes me feel wonderful that I know I'm making a difference in helping somebody," said Gupton.

This organization makes a difference by serving more than 1,000 people every day.

"Please go out and eat, have an extra appetizer, have a couple of desserts. Restaurants contribute anywhere from 20 to 50 percent of their income that night from their bar and food bill. So it's really important for us to support 'Dining Out For Life,'" said Bonderenko.

Ruth Sutor has been donating her time for 10 years.

"I enjoy it. I look forward to it. If I have to miss a week, I just feel my week's not complete," said Sutor.

"It's tough this year. A lot of foundations have cut back on their support. Corporations are cutting back, so we're depending very heavily this year on individual and private donors to help us out, so that we can continue our service to the people most vulnerable and most in need of a daily meal," Bonderenko said.
